This archive is held by the Royal Basque Society of the Friends of the Country and was donated by the Zurbano family in the mid twentieth century. This is the result of the documentation generated, in particular, by Dr. Juan de Zurbano, a secular priest subordinate to a bishop in the Alava parish churches of Zurbano and Foronda, Canon of the Cathedral of Oviedo, and finally, Prebendary of the Holy Scripture in the Colegio de San Bartolom\u00e9 el Viejo, and Professor in the University of Durando. His travels throughout Oviedo (as Canon of the Cathedral Church), Madrid, Salamanca and Granada (to the death of his brother Mr. Francisco de Zurbano).<\/p>\n
Having established majorat rights to his heir Mr. Ram\u00f3n de Zurbano, and from him to his son Mr. Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda de Zurbano, interest in the documentation would extend from \u00c1lava to Gipuzkoa, especially in the area of Segura, Cegama, Cerain and Idiazabal where they owned important country houses and real estate.
