Archive of the Counts of Peñaflorida and Marquises of Fontellas
This is the family Archive of the Count who founded the Society, Mr. Francisco Javier de Munibe e Idiaquez (1729-1785), the 10th Count of Peñaflorida.
It consists of 157 bundles or boxes, containing more than 4,000 documentary units, thereby collating documentation from three great Basque-Navarrese families, incorporated in the second half of the nineteenth century by the Donostia native Mr. Francisco Javier de Mendizabal y Argaiz (1841-1910), who with his Mendizabal paternal estate added the inheritance of his great-uncle Mr. Victor de Munibe y Aranguren, XIII Count of Peñaflorida, as he died in 1874 without leaving any descendents, and by his mother, Luisa de Argaiz and Munibe; the Argaiz estate, from the Merindad de Tudela (administrative division), on the death of his uncle Javier Paulino de Argaiz y Munibe.
As these families were important in the practice of primogeniture, this pool includes documentation from the houses of Mendizabal, Vildosola, Pérez de Isaba, Ansorena-Garayoa, Argaiz, Galdeano, Jaso, Azpilcueta, Arlas, Remírez de Asiain, Munibe, Arancibia-Sasiola, Eguino-Isasaga, Ugarte, Zaldivar, Mallea, Araiz, Arrazubia, Insausti, Escalante, Ibarra-Elormendi, Astigarribia, Gaviola and Maspe.
This archive has a digitized inventory, and its depository is fully digitized.
